The Latina/o Studies Program, Latina/o Student Success Office, and the Latino Living Center congratulate Abraham Araya ('19), the 2018 recipient of the Marti Dense Student Leadership Award.

This annual award recognizes an exceptional student leader, whose winning essay is presented at the annual Unity Dinner in October. Abraham, a Biology and Society major, is on a pre-medical track working towards becoming a dermatologist and affecting change within the intersection of medicine and social justice. He is also president of the Multicultural Greek and Fraternal Council, a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, a resident advisor in the Townhouse Community, a mentor in Pre-M3 and SWAG and a member of the Black Students United political action committee.

His time at Cornell has been spent exploring identities and their intersections to understand others, and himself, better. He was born and raised in Atlanta, GA, and his parents were born and raised in Eritrea, a northeast African country on the Red Sea coast.
