“Waking up to the state of hate we are living in breaks my heart every day. And by the end of every day, my heart is mended by the freedom fighters who call this state of hate BS, who sit in on the floors of members of the highest offices and demand justice, and who fight back anti-blackness, homophobia, and xenophobia at their kitchen tables,” says Alejandra Ruiz '09.
After transitioning out of her five-year role as Development Director at United We Dream, Alejandra took some time to relax and reflect by traveling, hanging out with abuela, and reconnecting with friends, family, and herself. Now she has joined the Movement Voter Project (MVP) team as Director of Strategic Growth. MVP works with donors – from grassroots individual donors to major donors and foundations -- to talent-scout both national and local movement-building efforts in all 50 states that are focused on voter engagement and which use an intersectional grassroots organizing lens for movement building. In her role she will oversee donor engagement and advising.
Alejandra says she feels re-energized and excited to serve in this new capacity at MVP, and she looks forward to continuing to build a United States that is dignified for us all.
Alejandra will return to Cornell this Fall as the keynote speaker at the 26th Annual Latina/o Unity celebration.
She holds a B.A. in Spanish and a B.S. in Urban Regional Studies with minors in Latina/o Studies, Latin American Studies Program and Inequality Studies; she can be reached via email at aruiz29@gmail.com.
