¡CULTURA! Engaged Latina/o Studies

CULTURA is gearing up for a very exciting spring semester with the continuation of some classic series and events, and some new and exciting collaborations. We will kick the semester off with a First Friday and Open House event on Friday March 4 from 5-8pm at the CULTURA Office downtown (2nd Floor of Autumn Leaves Used Bookstore, 110 The Commons) to celebrate the inauguration of the incredible painting donated to us by Cornell student and artist Kevin Cruz. If you haven't been to our downtown office, this is a great chance to come say "hola" and enjoy some free snacks and refreshments!

CULTURA will be offering two of our most popular series: Cafe con CULTURA series and the newer Gimme CULTURA (same program at Gimme State St. with free Gimme coffee), as well the Cuenta Cuentos Storyteller Series at the Tompkins County Public Library. In April, we will be hosting our third annual Poesía Poetry Event (so please consider joining if you have some poetry of your own), which will be in collaboration with Spring Writes Literary Festival. CULTURA, in collaboration with Bici-Cocina Bicycle Food Cart and Rocky Acres Community Farms (owned by Prof. Ananda Cohen-Suarez and her partner Rafael Aponte) is helping to develop and event slated around Earth Day tentatively entitled "Browns and Greens" which addresses the intersectionalities of movements for racial justice (browns) and those for sustainability (greens). The semester will end with the annual Cinco de Mayo party at Streets Alive at GIAC (Greater Ithaca Activities Center) for some fun and food.

CULTURA wouldn't be able to put on all of this great programming without the support of the Latina/o Studies Program, Engaged Cornell, and most importantly the help of student volunteers and students involved in the Cultures & Communities Course.
