Dr. Evelyn Ambríz '11 and '15 joins Latina/o Studies

Dr. Evelyn Ambríz '11 and '15 is a Postdoctoral Associate for Mentoring and Faculty Engagement at Cornell University, where she co-leads the Faculty Advancing Inclusive Mentoring (FAIM) Resource Center. In this role, she designs research-informed tools and workshops that support inclusive, values-driven mentoring across the university. Her work focuses on helping faculty and graduate students build meaningful mentoring relationships that align with academic, professional, and personal well-being. She also regularly engages in research and across-university collaborations to inform faculty development initiatives and mentoring approaches for graduate students as they navigate the academy and engage in value-driven decision making to meet their goals and aspirations.

Latina/o Studies welcomes Dr. Ambriz this coming academic year as a Visiting Scholar. She will collaborate with Dr. Debra Castillo to explore mentoring dynamics in the humanities and social sciences, fields where research is often solitary and identity development is deeply entangled with academic inquiry. Research will leverage phenomenological and case study approaches to better understand how mentoring unfolds in these contexts and to identify opportunities for inclusive, field-specific mentoring frameworks that support emerging scholars in finding belonging and direction.

Dr. Ambríz earned a B.S. in Development Sociology (now Global Development) from Cornell University in 2011, and a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) with a Graduate Minor in Latina/o Studies from the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs (now the Brooks School of Public Policy) in 2015. She received her Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership & Policy from the University of Texas at Austin in 2022. Previously, she has served as an Assistant Dean of Students at Cornell University.

You surely will see Dr. Ambriz at Latina/o Studies events and on the 4th Floor of Rockefeller Hall.
