Latinx community welcomes Jairo Gordillo

The Latina/o Studies Program and Latinx Student Success Office welcomes the new Residential Hall Director of the Latino Living Center, Jairo León Gordillo. Before joining Residential Life at Cornell, Jairo completed his degree in Literature and Writing from California State University San Marcos, and his Masters of Education in Higher Education and Organizational Change from University of California, Los Angeles.

Jairo has past experience as the Assistant Director at the UCLA Alumni Association, an organization that helps bridge alumni to the campus they graduated from. Likewise, he has past experience in supporting the HIV-positive communities in San Diego, and undergraduates through UCLA’s residential life program.

Jairo is dedicated to improving the Latinx experience at Cornell through his prominent role as RHD, and hopes to share the richness of the Latinx culture with the campus community. The Latino Living Center, founded in 1994 after student activist efforts, hosts fifty-five residents who all represent a variety of heritages and backgrounds. All have a common interest in the Latinx community, as demonstrated by events like the Café con Leche series. We cannot wait to see what changes Jairo brings to the LLC and the broader Latinx community.

Again, we extend a warm welcome to Jairo into the Cornell Latinx community! For information about the LLC, please contact Jairo at jl2744@cornell.edu.
