Side by Side art installation by Pepón Osorio opens April 20, 2017

Invited by the Cornell Council for the Arts (CCA) to participate in the 2016 Biennial, Abject/Object Empathies as Artist-in-Residence, Pepón Osorio unveils a new-site specific installation made through a year-long process of working with the university and downtown Ithaca communities.

Visitors to the installation are invited into a personal world turned upside-down, by the overwhelming reality often lived by those who have transformed turmoil, dislocation, loss, and trauma into strategies for endurance, resistance and determination. The exhibition is filled with moving images that evoke reflection on the complexity of our contemporary lives.

Assistant professor of Latina/o Studies and English, Ella Diaz worked with Osorio on community components, coordinating a site visit on April 11 and public conversations moderated by Ithaca community activist and farmer Rafael Aponte. Invited guests will focus on the role of women in the community, migration, and inter-generational communication. Full story
