Bien Acompañada Press’ released its second Latinx zine, Voices of Central America/Voces De Centroamérica. The first issue released in December 2018, Sana Sana ¿y cuando es mañana? and a third is planned for release in the Fall 2019. The Latinx communinty zine project is supported by an Engaged Opportunity Grant from Engaged Cornell.
Zines have become a powerful way for marginalized communities to raise awareness about the issues affecting them. Faculty members from Cornell and Ithaca College have partnered with alumni from each school and ¡CULTURA! Ithaca to produce a series of three Latinx and community-based zines, Bien Acompañada Press.
Bien Acompañada Press was founded by Krystall Escobedo, the director of ¡CULTURA! Ithaca, and Gabriela Lopez, a Cornell alum. The project started when the two were sharing poetry by poets on social media.
