Congratulations to Ella Diaz, who recently received tenure and a promotion to associate professor in Cornell University's Latina/o Studies and Department of English effective July 1, 2018.
Diaz joined Cornell in 2012 and received her Ph.D. in May 2010 from the College of William and Mary in American Studies. Before joining Cornell she was a lecturer at the San Francisco Art Institute for six years.
In May 2017 Ella received the Kendall S. Carpenter Memorial Advising Award. Her students report she invests time in them, inspires, motivates and shows she believes in their potential. Diaz has been particularly supportive mentoring women of color and students with undocumented or DACA legal status.
Diaz’s book, Flying Under the Radar with the Royal Chicano Air Force: Mapping a Chicano/a Art History (2017) explores the art, poetry, performance, and political activism of a vanguard Chicano/a art collective founded in Sacramento, California, in the 1970s.
Diaz has published in Aztlán: A Journal of Chicano Studies, Chicana-Latina Studies Journal, and ASAP/Journal. She is currently finishing a monograph on canonical Chicano poet and artist Jose Montoya for the Chicano Studies Resource Center at UCLA.
