As you look at the Latina/o studies Fall 2020 course offerings, you'll see a name that may not be familiar: Corinna Noel.
Corinna received her Ph.D. in Food Science in 2017 from Cornell University and will be joining Latina/o studies as a Lecturer, jointly appointed with the Division of Nutritional Sciences (DNS), beginning this Fall.
She will teach the popular course Sociology of Health and Ethnic Minorities (LSP/DSOC 2200), taught by Pilar Parra for the last 25 years. The course provides an introduction to the study of health disparities and the determinants of health in minorities, with a focus on societal influences.
Corinna has a background in nutrition, epidemiology, and applied public health. Her work has ranged from investigating the taste system as a driver of food choice to examining racial/ethnic disparities in heart disease to serving as the county epidemiologist for an initiative aiming to reduce opioid overdoses in Cayuga County, New York. Prior to joining the Latino/a Studies Program, Corinna taught in DNS's Dietetics Internship program and advised students through community-based research projects.
You will find Corinna in her office in Savage Hall (226) and in Latina/o studies and via email at can64@cornell.edu. Stop by to say hello, welcome Corinna and join us for a cup of Café con Leche.
