The Latine Student Success Office (LSSO) and Latina/o Studies Program are deeply grateful to the Cornell Latino Alumni Association (CLAA) for its crowdfunding campaign to directly support the LSSO/LSP emergency fund! This 30-day campaign launched November 7, 2021 and exceeded its funding goal, with 68 donors raising $20,203. This initiative allows Latina/o Studies and the Latinx Student Success Office to help more students during these challenging times.

The emergency fund was established in September 2017 to support undergraduate students facing emergency funding needs. Back then, students were dealing with political and natural disasters; now in the midst of a pandemic, these funds are more important than ever.

In December 2020, CLAA's holiday fundraising campaign raised $9,375 to support students in need. Grants were awarded to 20 students and were depleted in Spring 2021.

The emergency fund provides grants of up to $500 to undergraduate students with necessary emergency expenses incurred during the fall or spring semesters that cannot be funded by other means. Details about the emergency fund can be found here, and the application here.  Please contact LSSO Advisor Simon Velasquz at st523@cornell.edu.

Please visit the Office of Financial Aid for additional emergency fund resources at Cornell.

I’m so thankful that this fund has grown so much in its second year thanks to the contributions from a wide group of Cornell Alumni, both Latino/a/x and not, and our friends and family. I heard from people that wanted to make sure that Latino/a/x students succeed at Cornell and that emergency financial needs don’t derail their Cornell experience.
